Talk to a real archaeologist! I specialize in archaeology as I have been practicing and teaching archaeology for 9 years. I have worked closely with federal, state and local bodies while in my positions as Senior Archaeologist with Geoarchaeology Research Associates and Senior Project Manager – Archaeologist at CBRE. In both positions, I have gained knowledge of America’s historic built environment, preservation practices and regulatory issues the preservation arena manages and faces. In addition, I have expertise applying various historic preservation laws, such as Section 106, to these issues and have a successful track record of negotiating through these laws with consultation and problem solving skills.
My teaching approach is a synthesis of the direct and communicative approach. As a teacher who is comfortable and has adopted a conversational teaching style, I believe that this is the most effective way to motivate a class. In order to facilitate a conversation, or a discussion, which involves the exchange of ideas, it encourages a higher level of understanding and learning. The communicative approach can be difficult for students who are accustomed to the more traditional or direct approach through lectures and assessments through exams. In the communicative approach, the answers of the real or daily life. Therefore, students are motivated to learn by being motivated to communicate meaningfully in significant ways.
