Hello, My name is Nicolas and I'm a professional French and English Teacher. After obtaining a Master's degree in English I spent 5 years traveling the world while teaching. I taught at the university level, in high school, in language schools and even for companies! I love learning new languages myself (I'm currently learning Spanish and I'm planning to learn German and Japanese too). I think it's fun and challenging and I hope to share this passion for language and foreign cultures with my students. I think being a language learner myself also gives me the ability to understand the kind of difficulties students might face. When you take a class with me you're taking a class with someone who actually knows what it means to feel ridicule when trying to articulate some thoughts in a difficult foreign language. As a teacher I use the communicative approach which means you will actually spend the class speaking the language you are learning. The idea is to make sure that the class is conducted like a conversation. I simply pick a theme and then use documents in order to facilitate the conversation. As for grammar I like to teach it "in context" which means that I will correct mistakes that impair your speech and I will introduce new grammar when needed so that you can see grammar as a new tool helping you when you talk and not as an obstacle you might struggle with. I love to use texts, videos, short films and music when I teach. I can't conceive a language disconnected from its cultural context so I believe you learn better when you can appreciate the culture a language is coming from.
