. I’ve been an English teacher for 13 years, but before this, I worked in Finance and Marketing for 12 years as a manager and lecturer. I have taught at many large corporations such as BP, Siemens, SAAB, Lukoil, and Czech National bank (ČSOB) and a couple of government ministries, such as the National Oil Fund of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communication.
I have taught children to adults, both online and in-person. I have also taught TOEFL, FCE and IELT prep classes, and professionally assessed the English skills of prospective applicants at BP. My classes are extremely professional and modified to the students' needs.
My teaching methodology depends completely on the student, as people learn in different ways. While the Direct method might work well for some, CLT might work better for others. I adapt the work to fit the student’s ability and learning style. I also coax students to speak as much as possible in class. Because of this, I have maintained the same students for three years or longer. Some have gone on to pass IELTS and emigrate abroad, others have gained entrance to their schools of choice, and some have gotten promotions.
I am from the US, but have spent the past 13 years abroad, teaching in Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, China (online) and Georgia. I speak five languages, which I believe has helped me be a better teacher. I have suffered under poor teachers and understand how I thrived under the tutelage of others. I think this is one of the biggest things which sets me apart from other teachers; that I have already been through this process, and have learned first-hand what works and what does not.
