Hi, My name is Jorge. I have a degree in Physics and more than 7 years of experience as a private tutor, teaching both Physics and Mathematics to students of different ages and levels. During these years, I have mainly worked with secondary school and high-school students, helping them prepare for exams, improve their understanding of difficult topics and catch up when they have fallen behind. After more than seven years of teaching, I have learned that there is no single method that works for everyone. Some students understand things better through visual explanations, others need to practise many exercises, and sometimes a student simply needs the same concept explained from a different point of view. Because of this, I try to adapt my lessons to each student's needs rather than following exactly the same approach with everyone. When teaching Physics, I don't like relying too much on memorising formulas. I think it is much more useful for students to understand what is actually happening in the problem, what information they have, what they are being asked to find and how they should approach it. Once the reasoning behind a formula is understood, it becomes much easier to remember and, more importantly, to know when and how to use it. I take a similar approach to Mathematics. When a student is struggling with a particular topic, I first try to identify where the difficulty actually comes from. Quite often, problems with a more advanced topic are caused by a small gap in basic knowledge from previous years. In those cases, I prefer to spend some time strengthening that foundation instead of simply moving forward and making the problem bigger. My lessons are practical and interactive. I usually explain the necessary theory and then move fairly quickly to exercises, working through problems together with the student. I also try to make sure that the student is the one doing the reasoning and taking the steps, rather than simply watching me solve everything. I believe this is what eventually allows them to solve similar problems independently. I can help students who need occasional support before an exam, as well as students who prefer regular lessons throughout the school year. We can also focus on specific needs, such as preparing for an exam, reviewing certain topics, working through exercises or catching up on material that has become difficult. I mainly teach online and I am comfortable working in this format. I use tools such as digital whiteboards and screen sharing so that we can work through problems together in real time. My aim is for an online lesson to feel as interactive and personal as a face-to-face lesson, rather than simply being a video call where the teacher does all the talking. After more than seven years of tutoring, I have encountered many different types of students and many of the difficulties that tend to come up repeatedly in Physics and Mathematics. This experience has taught me to recognise quite quickly where a student is struggling and, more importantly, to look for a different way of explaining something when the first explanation does not work.
