Hello and welcome!
My name is Ana Guerra, and I’m a certified C2 German tutor originally from Galicia, Spain.
I know how overwhelming learning German can feel at the beginning. There are countless apps, courses, methods, and resources out there, and it’s not always easy to know what actually works. That’s why, after more than 5 years teaching German and over 10 years teaching languages overall (including C2 English), I developed my own approach focused on efficient, practical learning.
For beginners (A-level students), I believe one of the most important foundations is pronunciation and reading aloud. I call this approach “Sounds First.” The goal is to build strong phonetic awareness from the beginning so that you can confidently read German texts out loud naturally and accurately, even before understanding every word or grammar rule.
In my experience, automating German sound patterns early on makes the rest of the learning process much easier. It helps you understand the language more intuitively, communicate more clearly, and avoid pronunciation habits that become harder to correct later. Once pronunciation feels natural, you can focus much more on meaning, fluency, and communication instead of constantly trying to decode how words sound.
This foundation can usually be built within a few focused weeks, and it often saves students a great deal of time and frustration later on.
Of course, every student has different goals and preferences. If you prefer a more traditional learning style, we can absolutely work that way too. The most important thing is finding an approach that matches your objectives and helps you progress consistently.
In my lessons, I place a strong emphasis on active language use. I encourage students to engage with German from the beginning through guided conversations, real-world content, and practical communication. I also sometimes incorporate CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), where we explore interesting topics while naturally using German in context.
We may work with authentic and accessible materials such as adapted articles, educational content, or resources created for native-speaking children and teenagers (GeoLino, Helles Köpfchen, WikiHow, etc.). My approach aims to connect vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, and grammar together so the language feels meaningful and alive rather than fragmented into isolated rules.
After many years of teaching, I’ve developed a clear understanding of which learning habits tend to help students progress efficiently and which ones often slow them down. That’s why I prefer to be transparent from the start and help students find a method that genuinely works for them.
If you’re interested in active learning, strong pronunciation, and building real confidence in German communication, I’d be happy to guide you through the process.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions, specific requests, or simply want to see whether my coaching style is the right fit for you. We can also discuss this during a trial lesson.
I look forward to meeting you!
