My specialty is bridging the gap between abstract Chinese characters and complex grammar and the most fascinating aspects of Chinese cuisine and pop culture! When teaching the character "sweet," we'll not only learn the shape and pronunciation of the character, but also discuss the sweet and sour, crispy flavor of traditional Beijing candied haws and explore the hidden menu items of viral milk tea. When learning the character "spicy," we'll delve into the fiery world of Sichuan hot pot and explore why spicy strips have become a national snack. Even seemingly challenging aspects like word order and function words can be mastered easily by following fun clips from popular Chinese-style variety shows and influencer short videos. Furthermore, we'll also delve into trivia about traditional festivals, such as why Spring Festival couplets are hung during Spring Festival and how mooncakes are eaten during Mid-Autumn Festival, allowing you to truly appreciate the local flavor of China while learning the language.
