Hi, I'm Ngcebo from Eswatini. I am TEFL certified and hold a bachelor's degree in social work. My motivation for teaching is rooted in a simple belief which is that everyone deserves to communicate with confidence, and the right support can make that happen faster than people expect. My background in Social Work, combined with my TEFL certification, has shown me that real learning happens when a student feels safe, seen, and genuinely engaged not just instructed. Keeping students engaged online starts with building rapport quickly. As a Youth Counsellor, I learned that people participate far more when they feel truly listened to, not just talked at. I bring that principle into my lessons by asking genuine questions about my students' lives, interests, and goals early on, then shaping lesson content around what actually matters to them. A student learning English for work engages very differently than one learning for travel, and tailoring examples to their world keeps motivation high. I also rely heavily on interactive, conversation-based teaching rather than passive instruction. Instead of long explanations, I use guided questions, role-play scenarios, and real-life situations like ordering food, describing a work problem, explaining an opinion so students are producing language, not just receiving it. This "speak first, correct gently after" approach keeps confidence up, especially for learners nervous about mistakes. When students feel free to stumble without judgment, they take more risks with language, and that's where real progress happens. To increase involvement and interaction, I use a few consistent strategies: breaking lessons into short, varied segments to maintain attention (speaking, listening, light writing or vocabulary work); using visual aids and real-world materials like short articles or audio clips to keep lessons current; and consistently asking open questions like "What do you think?" or "How would you say this?" rather than yes/no prompts, which naturally pulls students deeper into the conversation. For achievement and retention, I set small, visible goals within each session and track progress across lessons, noting recurring mistakes, new vocabulary, and growing confidence. Celebrating small wins matters more than people realize, a student who leaves a lesson feeling they've genuinely improved is far more likely to return consistently and recommend the experience to others, which directly supports intake and retention.
