About me

I'm Giusy, I'm Italian and I have 3 years of private online tutoring experience, almost 2 of which on a Japanese platform. My students are not only locals but also Brazilians, Japanese and Spanish. I am 44 years old and English has been part of my life since I was 14. As a first job I am a foreign commercial clerk for a multinational company. I've been doing this for 12 years and part of my job is to deal with native speakers from the UK, Australia, USA and Northern Europe on a daily basis over the phone and via email. Hence, I would be happy to help you develop and master your skills in talking on the phone or writing business emails. Also, since the pandemic started, I have been teaching my 12-year-old neighbors' children. I am currently tutoring several adults. My lessons turn full attention to the student, and aim at the concept of teaching the language in order to communicate and let the student actually use the language. So, my approach is mostly communicative and I tend to maximize students' conversation time. Depending on the level I prefer to use a gradual controlled activity until they gain enough confidence to carry out language production activities, role playing to name one. In general, I use visual aids to stimulate the oral part, as well as teaching in advance some words necessary for the reading or listening sections. I also use the resources that the internet can offer a lot, such as: reading of graded articles with sets of questions aimed at stimulating conversation. Especially with adults who need to communicate as quickly as possible, I use videos taken from You tube or Ted talk. Depending on the interest of the student, I select the material and on this I build the basis for an interesting and stimulating conversation. Last but certainly not least, depending on the student's learning style, I modify the lessons in order to increase their level of involvement.
