Hello! My name is Sonia Smolina, a private tutor for English classes. I have 2 years experience teaching English, with a focus on conversation and learning by speaking. However, one of the aims in classes will also be finding ways and exercises with which the student learns best, and creating a varied lesson plan for each student. I have experience coaching rugby at the school level, and hopefully it will be transferrable in making classes a fun as well as hard-working environment, with a lot of emphasis on socialising and speaking.

A bit about me. I graduated from Tver State University in 2003 with a Master’s in Teaching Russian. Since 2009, I’ve been working as a tutor helping English speakers learn Russian - from complete beginners to advanced learners.
As a certified teacher, I can explain tricky parts of the language all with clear comparisons to English when needed.

I have about 5 years of experience as an ESL teacher and about a year as a French second language teacher, 3 years of experience as a translator and 7 years of experience as a bilingual customer services representative in call-centers (English and French). I worked for 2 years as an administrative assistant and for 4 years as an amateur programmer. I have taught English mostly for adults at the University level. I taught English at the Mari State University, Yoshkar-Ola, Russia and also at Russian State Social University, Moscow, Russia. I taught English and French at the English Language Institute, Moscow, Russia. I taught English, French, Maths and Sciences at the Oxford Learning Center, Calgary, AB, Canada. Right now I teach French online.
I like Grammar-Translation Teaching Methodology, which means that I teach grammar rules and vocabulary through translation. I also use Communicative Language Teaching, which means that I encourage students to speak, listen, read and write through interactive activities. Right now I teach online. I have a good quality headset with a good side talk cancellation microphone. My internet is fast. I have a possibility to hook up my computer to the modem with an ethernet cable. I have a Battery Backup Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System which gives about 40 minutes of autonomy to finalize a lesson. I have dry erase whiteboard markers with a white board and some chalk with a blackboard. I enjoy what I do right now.
