Hello there! I am Phelokazi Dastile your native English teacher, nice to meet you. I am a dual graduate of Honours in Counselling Psychology from the University of South Africa and a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences from Rhodes University.
I have a 4 years experience of teaching English and other Social Sciences subjects such as Sociology both in formal and formal settings. I have spent a significant period teaching student in contact and that is where i learned the importance of coordinating my counselling skills into teaching- learners need encouragement to believe in themselves and this requires a teacher to see a student as an individual.
Teaching is personal to me that is why I spend the extra time I have to tutor students voluntarily so.My classes are organised in a semi-formal structure and use blended methodology as an approach to teaching. This means that student are active participant and not mere absorbers of information. They are allowed to ask and have a contribution in class. This method help students to build their self-esteem and confidence which is versatile to the outside world as well.

I’m from China, born in a border city in Northern China. My hometown was home to people from various nationalities, such as Russians and Mongolians, which made me accustomed to interacting with different cultures and languages from a young age. At 12, I moved to Shanghai with my parents and later successfully completed my bachelor’s degree at Tongji University. At 24, I went to Germany to pursue my master’s degree at the Technical University of Berlin. After graduation, I worked as a research associate and project manager at the Chinese Center of TU Berlin, gaining valuable international experience.
Currently, I am a doctoral candidate at the Technical University of Berlin and an online language teacher.
Language and Cultural Experience
In addition to Chinese, I am fluent in German (C2) and English (C1). Having spent 12 years in Northern China and 12 years in Southern China, I have gained profound insights into the cultural differences, conflicts, and integration between the two regions. Over the past 12 years in Germany, I’ve experienced and developed a deep appreciation for the cultural differences between the West and China.
Furthermore, my partner is German, and we have a lively and adorable child.
