Stefano
I have been teaching at the university level for three years. I hold both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in History, with theses focused on the medieval period. My teaching method is the antithesis of the standard summaries often provided to struggling students. I offer details—the most captivating and intriguing ones—because history is a tapestry woven from interconnected details. Only by presenting and elaborating on these details can one grasp a dynamic and fit it into a complex, overarching framework. Seemingly disparate dynamics often share a common logic, and only by examining the deeper facts can we understand the thread that connects them. Even seemingly trivial details are invaluable for understanding human actions; after all, human behavior—whether of individuals or societies—lies at the very heart of the study we call history. History is, fundamentally, the study of human actions.
My area of expertise is Byzantine history, alongside Roman and medieval history.
I am here to provide the guidance you need to tackle the material without burning out.
Effort is an inherent part of study—learning requires hard work! Without that effort, the process loses its vitality.
I reject oversimplification; I aim for depth rather than superficial shortcuts. While I do use outlines and summaries, they are not mere substitutes for comprehensive textbooks or in-depth lectures. In an age of instant gratification, reading a thousand-page book or listening to a detailed, profound lecture might seem tedious, but it is actually thrilling. That sense of excitement—which allows you to remain engaged while listening—is a powerful antidote to boredom and fatigue, and it is exactly what my lessons deliver.
If you want to study history and experience it like a documentary or a TV drama, I am the perfect tutor for your curiosity! I am also available for mock exams and practice sessions.
