Hi everyone! My name is Marika, and I’m originally from Italy, but I’ve lived and worked in the UK for several years. I’m an English teacher, editor, and researcher, and I really love helping students feel more confident and expressive in English.
I have a PhD in English Literature from the University of Leeds, and I’ve taught English at universities such as Leeds and Manchester Metropolitan. My academic background means that I have a strong understanding of how language works—how we read, write, and communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked with a wide range of learners—from university students and professionals to people who just want to improve their speaking skills for travel or everyday life. I always adapt my lessons to your needs, whether you want to:
improve your academic writing or essays,
prepare for presentations or interviews,
or simply become more fluent and confident in conversation.
My teaching style is interactive and flexible. I like to create a calm and motivating atmosphere where you can feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and learning at your own pace. I believe that every student learns differently, so I always personalise our lessons—using materials such as short texts, news articles, or even literature and film—to make learning meaningful and enjoyable.
If you’re interested in academic or professional English, I can also help you develop strong writing and critical thinking skills. As a researcher and editor, I know how to guide you in building clear arguments, improving your vocabulary, and polishing your writing for clarity and tone.
For more conversational lessons, we can focus on pronunciation, fluency, and natural expression. I’ll help you sound more confident and authentic when you speak—whether that’s in a meeting, a classroom, or a café chat.
Ultimately, my goal is to help you find your own voice in English—to express yourself naturally, think in English, and enjoy using it in your daily life.
So, if that sounds like what you’re looking for, I’d love to meet you and start this learning journey together.
