About me

I have 5 years of experience (and the CELTA certification) in teaching English as a second language, exclusively using methods that include students in their own learning. Classes usually begin with small talk to make the transition to study material more enjoyable, especially if the student in question takes the class after their workday. As for vocabulary, I use photos, simplified definitions, onomatopoeia, etc., using translation only as a last resort. For grammar structures, I provide students with a series of spoken or written examples so they see the language in context. We usually go on to practice what we have learned right away, using exercises I design myself, and then wrap up the session with more conversation and feedback. Depending on the student's time availability, I assign homework for the next class. I usually orient the topic of my classes towards the student's interests, their occupation, hobbies or ongoing and future projects. Because I have some training in the oil industry area, as a web developer, graphic designer and IT technician, I have a special affinity for classes to students in those areas.
