Hello. I’m a certified ESL Tutor, Elsibe Loubser McGuffog, and excited to help you with your English studies! I have an Honours Degree in English, as well as training in a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education, along with a host of other career-related certificates. I am also a published writer of poetry and children's books, and a visual artist. Having been in the corporate educational publishing industry since 1993 and having taught at university level since 2009, I have a deep understanding of English in all its applications. I have taught business English, creative writing, journalism, life orientation, and hospitality studies, and continue today as a high school teacher. My role as high school English teacher (Grades 7 to 12) and my prior role as lecturer at a teachers’ training college is testimony to my ability. I have been teaching English online since August 2022. I presently have 16 000 hours’ online teaching experience. My training is through the School of Online English Tutors (SOET) based in South Africa. I gained a distinction in this 10-week course in online-teaching skills, including 110hrs instructor-led-training and delivered 39 online lessons (78 hours) as part of my training. My lesson methodologies include CLL (Communicative Language Learning), TPR (Total Physical Response) and (SOET’s Total Emotional Response). In short, you will talk in my class and leave the class feeling great! Lessons with me are interactive, engaging, and structured according to PPP (presentation, practice, production), which means that you will be grounded in solid understanding and use your new skills immediately and thoroughly. One of my students progressed from A2 competency to B2 and has this to say about my classes: "Elsibe is a professional in her field; she is able to find a common language with absolutely anyone, and if something is unclear to you, she will make every effort to come up with a bunch of different and useful ways to explain a particular topic.
