My classes are designed to support students in International Baccalaureate (IB) Language A: Literature and MYP Language and Literature with a clear focus on confidence, structure, and personal growth. I understand that IB can feel overwhelming, especially with the unique requirements of assessments such as the Individual Oral (IO), Extended Essay (EE), Higher Level Essay (HLE), and Papers 1 and 2. My goal is to guide students step by step so that they feel prepared, capable, and motivated.
Each lesson is personalized. I begin by identifying the student’s strengths and areas for improvement—whether it’s essay organization, analysis of literary and non-literary texts, time management, or developing a strong thesis. From there, I tailor lessons to their needs. Some students need close guidance with structure and writing, while others benefit from advanced discussions that refine critical thinking. In both cases, I provide clear strategies and practical tools that can be applied immediately in their schoolwork.
A typical class balances explanation, practice, and feedback. I break down complex IB requirements into manageable steps, then allow students to apply the skill with a short activity or analysis. I always give constructive feedback that highlights what they are doing well and what can be improved. This balance ensures that students leave the lesson with both confidence and clarity.
For MYP students, my classes emphasize building strong foundations—understanding characterization, theme, figurative language, and how to express ideas in writing. I use engaging activities, relatable examples, and a supportive approach to help younger learners stay motivated and connected to their studies.
I also provide guidance on academic honesty, research skills, and reflective writing, which are essential for IB success. Students working on the Extended Essay or HLE benefit from structured planning, checkpoints, and personalized feedback to stay on track and reduce stress.
Beyond academics, I believe in creating a comfortable and encouraging environment. Many students feel anxious about assessments, so I include short check-ins to help them manage stress and stay motivated. My role is not only to teach but also to mentor—helping students grow in confidence and develop skills that will serve them beyond the IB.
In short, my classes are supportive, structured, and tailored to each student’s journey. I combine my experience as an IB teacher and supervisor with a warm, student-centered approach to help learners achieve their goals and feel empowered in their IB studies.
