Hello,
I’m Robert Mutinda, a Mathematics and Physics teacher with a Bachelor of Science in Education from South Eastern Kenya University, and I’m registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). I have been teaching in Kenyan secondary schools for over 9 years. Today I’m the Head of the Physics Department at Utugi High School, where I lead a team of 5 teachers. Before that, I headed the Science Department at Mbagara High School, and I started my career at Sengani High School.
What makes me different?
I love making tough topics feel easy. At Mbagara, I helped raise the mathematics mean score from 1.0 to 3.2, and our KCSE Physics mean reached 8.0 in 2023. At Sengani, I was named Best Mathematics Teacher. I have also guided students at the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair, where our project placed 1st in the county, 2nd in the region, and 4th in the whole country. So, if you think math or science “just isn’t your thing,” I promise we can change that together.
Mathematics
I can help you with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, vectors, probability, and statistics. I focus on understanding, not memorizing, so you know why a method works and can solve questions you have never seen before.
Electronics
At university, I studied Electronics I and II, Electricity and Magnetism, and Solid-State Physics. I can help you understand circuits, current, voltage, resistance, capacitors, diodes, and transistors, and the physics behind how everyday devices work. I like to teach it hands-on, with diagrams, simple circuit examples, and practical experiments, so you can see the idea working. This is also great if you are preparing a science fair project.
How I organize my classes
We start with a friendly chat to find out where you are now and what you want to achieve, whether that’s passing KCSE, raising your grades, or building a project.
I explain each topic step by step, using simple examples from real life.
We practice together with past-paper-style questions, starting easy and moving to harder ones.
We go through your mistakes with no pressure, because mistakes are how we learn.
I share notes and track your progress using Google Classroom, Docs, and Sheets, so you always know how you are improving.
If you need extra support before an exam, I can prepare revision materials just for you.
Who I teach
I enjoy working with Form 1 to Form 4 (KCSE) students, as well as first-year university students who need support in calculus, algebra, mechanics, or basic electronics. Whether you are struggling or already doing well and aiming for an A, I will adjust the pace to suit you.
Languages
I teach in English. I’m patient, positive, and I truly enjoy that moment when something finally clicks and you say, “Ah, now I get it!” My goal is not only to help you pass your exams, but to help you feel confident and curious about mathematics and science.
Send me a message and let’s plan a class around your goals. I look forward to meeting you.
