About me

Hi, I’m Akif! I teach English and Japanese. I grew up mainly in Osaka, graduated from the University of South Florida, and now work in tech in Japan. I use both languages with colleagues and clients to explain ideas, train team members, and work through problems together. I’m a native English speaker, fluent in Japanese, with four years of experience across tutoring and translation. Living in Japan and the US has made me curious about the little cultural differences in how people joke, express opinions, show respect, and build friendships. I enjoy helping students understand those details and choose expressions that suit the situation. Outside work, I love soccer, fitness, meeting new people, and making YouTube videos about life in Japan. Storytelling is a big part of that! We can practise sharing your experiences, expressing your personality, and keeping conversations going through topics you actually enjoy. We’ll start by discussing your goals, interests, and current level. Lessons can focus on everyday conversation, workplace communication, interview practice, or situations you’re preparing for. We’ll combine speaking practice with useful vocabulary, grammar, and natural phrasing. I’ll give you clear corrections and explanations in English or Japanese, then finish with a short review of what to practise next. Whether you want to make friends, travel, or speak more confidently at work, tell me what you’d like to be able to say. We’ll work on it together!

Empecé a estudiar japonés hace poco más de 11 años. Tras 2 años estudiando en Barcelona, decidí ir a estudiar a Japón. Allí conseguí graduarme con el Nihongo Noryoku Shiken (más conocido como Noken) en su nivel más alto, el N1. También trabajé durante 7 años en una empresa de logística, dedicada principalmente a la exportación donde prácticamente sólo usaba el japonés. Allí aprendí un vocabulario y una metodología de trabajo que no se puede aprender en ninguna escuela. En Japón además (especialmente durante mi época de estudiante) di clases particulares de español, por lo que tengo experiencia enseñando idiomas. Experiencia que he ampliado con mis alumnos de japonés. Además de mi propia experiencia aprendiendo un idioma complicado como el japonés, dispongo de material didáctico mucho del cual compré en Japón y que creo que puede ayudar bastante al aprendizaje. Puedo dar las clases tanto en catalán como en castellano, si bien pretendo que a medida que tengáis unas nociones, enseñar el máximo de tiempo posible en japonés. Aparte del idioma en sí, estaré encantado de enseñar cualquier cosa que queráis sobre la cultura japonesa, consejos y apoyo para estudiar, trabajar y vivir allí, e incluso para que organicéis posibles viajes a un país tan cautivador.
