Hello! I'm Dorothea, your future ASL teacher and guide to Deaf culture. I’m hard of hearing and have been fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) for over 30 years. I began signing at age 5 and deepened my knowledge by studying ASL and Deaf Culture at Laney College, the Louisiana School for the Deaf, and Southern University A&M. In my professional life, I work as a Vocational Counselor for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and I’ve had the joy of teaching ASL to students of all ages — from children and families to college students, interpreters-in-training, and professionals. What makes my classes different? I personalize every lesson based on your goals and learning style. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, I’ll meet you where you are. We’ll learn through conversation, storytelling, games, and cultural tips — all in a supportive and fun space.
