Hi, I’m Sandra! ☀️ My education and experience: I’m a linguist (Bachelor's degree) and a certified teacher of Russian as a foreign language. For three years now, I’ve been helping adult students learn Russian. ☀️ Why do my students choose me? Here’s what they say: “Lessons with you turned into a great weekly routine.” “You’re kind of crazy in the best way. I can talk to you about anything, and it’s always interesting.” “She makes me want to keep learning, even when I'm overwhelmed by frustration and feel like nothing’s working.” ☀️ What a standard lesson looks like: The backbone is a proven textbook - grammar, phonetics, vocabulary, reading, listening, discussions. We try to speak only Russian during the lesson - maximum practice. Homework is flexible: minimum - learn vocabulary, for those who have more time for homework - I send some exercises in the chat to reinforce what we’ve learned. ☀️ Other formats (tailored to your needs): + Articles - I send you the material, you study at home, and we discuss it in class with new vocabulary. + Conversation practice - studied a topic and have no one to practice with? Come chat with me. + Cooking lesson - never made borscht before? Let’s cook it together. Any other request - we’ll discuss it individually. ☀️ My teaching philosophy: Better to speak without cases than stay silent with them. The goal is to understand and be understood. ☀️ Results: With regular lessons, you’ll start speaking more freely, stop being afraid of making mistakes, and begin understanding spoken Russian in real life. ☀️ Book a consultation: We’ll get to know each other, talk about your goals and priorities, do a quick assessment, and figure out the best starting point for you.

We always start with a small talk to warm up, then move to articulation exercises that help improve pronunciation—Russian words are not easy to pronounce! We begin each lesson by writing down the date and the topic, and then the structure depends on the lesson's objective. If we're focusing on grammar, I first explain the concept, then we read a short text to see it in context. Next, we do a brief exercise to check understanding, and spend the rest of the time practicing conversational skills using the grammar topic we've just studied. At the end of each lesson, we summarize what we've covered, address any questions, and I explain the homework. You'll also receive a short Quizlet quiz with new vocabulary to review. That's the general framework, but really, it's very individual and depends on the topic. I sometimes prepare special materials like memes, creative tasks such as making advertisements or posters, or we work with Russian music and literature to make it more engaging and fun. And we usually laugh a lot!
