Hi, I’m Amitava. I tutor advanced high-school and first-year college physics students, including AP Physics 1, 2, and C, as well as College Physics I & II. Many students understand formulas but struggle when it comes to problem solving, or feel overwhelmed by the fast pace of physics classes. Physics often feels difficult not because it is hard, but because equations are introduced before the physical picture is clear. In my lessons, we focus on intuition first — understanding what is really happening in a problem — so that the mathematics becomes logical and manageable instead of intimidating. This helps students stop guessing formulas and start solving problems with confidence. I specialize in exam-focused problem solving for AP Physics (Mechanics & E&M) and introductory college-level physics. My approach also works well for international curricula such as IB and A-Level, where conceptual clarity and structured reasoning are essential. I use tools like clear visual reasoning, smart reference frames, and symmetry to simplify problems that initially look complicated. With the right perspective, many difficult questions become straightforward. I’m patient and attentive to how students think, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals — whether that’s exam preparation, improving problem-solving skills, or strengthening fundamentals.
