John B.
Hi! I’m John, a Swiss quantitative trader-developer with an MSc in Finance (HEC Lausanne). I build and run 30+ systematic strategies across equities, FX, and crypto, and I love turning complex market ideas into simple, practical skills you can actually use.
What makes my classes different
I teach from real, production-style workflows—clean data, realistic costs/slippage, and disciplined risk rules (volatility targeting, drawdown controls). I’ve worked with live infrastructures (IBKR/FIX, MT5, SQL, Docker), so you’ll learn the habits practitioners use, not just theory.
How I organize lessons
Short concept → hands-on build → clear recap. We’ll work on mini-projects (e.g., a macro dashboard, a simple backtest, or a portfolio with risk sizing). You’ll leave each session with templates, checklists, and next steps. Homework is light but purposeful.
Who I teach
Motivated beginners to advanced learners: high-school/undergrad/Master’s students, career switchers, and active investors who want structure and discipline. Coding helps but isn’t required—I adapt the pace and provide starter notebooks.
Topics you can choose (mix & match)
Financial markets basics (order types, ETFs, costs, reading charts sensibly)
Macroeconomics for investors (cycles, yield curves, gold/Treasuries as hedges)
Investing & portfolio (allocation, risk/vol targeting, drawdown control)
AI for finance / Python (clean data pipelines, simple ML/sentiment, evaluation)
Build your own strategy (momentum, mean reversion, factor screens, execution hygiene)
Style & values
Friendly, clear, and practical. I focus on evidence over hype, and I measure success by your confidence and independence.
Logistics
Online only. I’m comfortable teaching in English or French and I can schedule around US time zones.
Note: Lessons are for education only (not investment advice). First 30-minute planning session is free so we can tailor your roadmap.
