The first lesson is crucial, because it allows me to screen the student and identify the right strategy to achieve the objectives in a reasonable time. At school, unfortunately, many teachers communicate in an old-fashioned way and use technicalities right from the very first lessons. Final results ? Kids get bored and start hating these subjects. I explain the arguments in a way that even those students who don't have a great knowledge of the basics can understand. I use lots of examples and, at last, I try to generalize in order to make the student capable of working by herself/himself. I can switch from a formal to a non formal language and vice versa in order to make of primary importance the understanding of the logical arguments without neglecting the teaching of technical terms. I always ask the student if he/she has understood and, if necessary, I verify it with some questions.
