About me: Hello I'm Matt, an Ex-Abbey Road Studios in-house Recording and Mixing Engineer with 10+ years of professional experience. I have worked with some of the most critically acclaimed artists in the world (Frank Ocean's Blonde, James Blake, Brockhampton, Ezra Collective, Nick Cave) I also write and produce my own music as part of the duo Hong Kongleton https://hongkongleton.bandcamp.com/ Currently, I am also diving into the world of mental health where I am in the process of studying to become a counsellor. Here I'm looking to bridge my two worlds together by helping musicians with their underlying emotions and how creativity can be nurtured and encouraged through this process. Through my professional life in the studio, growing trusting working relationships has always been of upmost importance when embarking on a creative journey together. When tutoring, I integrate these complimentary forces to provide an experience that is nurturing, supportive and tailored to you. Tutoring experience: I have been tutoring online one-to-one lessons since leaving Abbey Road Studios about 2 years ago. I hold a deep passion for music and enjoy building fruitful and effective learning relationships with my students, acting often as a mentor as well as a tutor. It has been a joy to meet so many students who are bursting with passion and curiosity. Having studied Music & Sound Recording on the Tonmeister Course (University of Surrey) I have a strong grounding in Music Technology as a subject and can help those looking to supplement their GCSE, A-Level and Degree learning. Approach: I employ a student led approach to tutoring and I'm excited to join you on your journey at whatever point you may be at! We all have our strengths, weaknesses, hurdles and bugbears. I'm here to help you identify, nurture and overcome them whilst learning skills and techniques that will help you 'level-up' in your abilities to create better and better productions, recordings and mixes. I mainly work in Pro Tools or Ableton Live. Whilst most of the principles I teach are universal, I have found that sessions work better when we are speaking the same DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) language. That being said I have had fruitful teaching experiences with tutees working in Logic, FL Studio etc. I primarily use Zoom along with screen sharing and real-time audio streaming software.

Hi there! I'm Nick. I am a musician, composer and electronic music producer with several years experience in instrumental teaching. I offer lessons in Music production, composition, jazz & pop keyboard skills, music theory, and sound design. I have many years experience teaching all ages and abilities, both privately and in a music-school setting. I have also lead music production workshops and lectures, and have experience in leading pre-school music workshops. Music Tech and Music Production I am an electronic music producer and DJ, releasing music with London's Houndstooth Records as 'Wordcolour'. My own music ranges from ambient to more club-focussed sounds, and has an emphasis on sonic detail and striking sound design. As Wordcolour, FACT magazine described me as “one of the UK’s brightest new club producers”. I have also created music and sound design for commercial clients including Google, as well as for various fine-art projects. I offer lessons which range from beginner introductions to Ableton, to advanced mixing and producing. I enjoy helping my students develop the technical skills they need to realise their ideas and make great sounding tracks! Jazz & Pop Keyboard Skills I have been playing and improvising on the piano since I was a child, and the keyboard has always been my first love for composition, improvisation, and musical performance. I have a particular interest in contemporary, pop, and jazz music, and can cover anything from learning your first pop song, to more advanced jazz harmony and improvisation. Theory and Composition I studied music composition at degree level, and have written music for theatre, TV and visual art. My compositions have been used on television around the world, and on UK networks such as the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. I teach music theory and composition from beginner to advanced levels, as well as the GCSE and A Level syllabus. Whether you want to write a pop song, a techno track, or a string quartet, I'll support your learning. I'm passionate about music-writing, and I love the challenge of helping my students find their own voice in whatever style they work in. In any subject area, I help my students develop the tools they need to realise their potential. Music has been such a source of joy and satisfaction in my own life, and love helping people discover this too on their own musical journey!
