I believe the strongest relationships are those in which teachers make students feel comfortable through designing lessons around a student's learning style and providing a safe space for them to voice their concerns.
Through my work experience as a private singing and piano teacher, my biggest accomplishments have been increasing self-confidence in introverted students.
I have an enhanced DBS and safeguarding certificates for both adults and children.
I teach:
Beginners - Singing, Piano 30 - 45 minutes
Intermediate - Singing, Piano 45 - 60 minutes
For singing lessons, I will suggest to bring in a song/short section of a song to the first lesson! The reason for this is for me to get to know your voice so that I will be able to see where your voice is at. There is no pressure if you prefer not to as I would have plenty of songs for you to sing. As we start singing, we will begin with:
1. Body stretching and vocal warm ups
2. Short vocal songs (ex: call and response songs)
3. Main pieces that we focus on during the lessons
You can also expect lesson plans to include:
- Vocal health
- Understanding the mind, body & voice connection
- Physical stretch and release
- Posture and alignment
- Warmups and cooldowns
- Vocal technique (breathing, registers, articulation, primal sounds etc.)
- Improvisation
- Performance coaching
- Genre-specific techniques (classical, musical theatre, rap etc.)
- Guidance for practice
For piano lessons, the usual lesson plan will be:
1. Technical exercises
2. Main pieces that we focus on during the lessons
You can also expect lesson plans to include:
- Learning pieces that the student enjoys
- Notation, sight- reading and theory
- Combining theory and aural skills by listening to intervals, scales, chords, time signatures and keys
I am aware of these exam boards for:
ABRSM Grade 1 to 8 - Piano and Music theory duration depending on Grade level
Trinity music Grade 1 to 8 - Singing duration depending on Grade level
Performing experience:
I have recently returned from working as a hotel singer and pianist across the island of Mallorca in various hotels such as Fergus Tobago hotel, Globales Cala Bona, Las Arenas Hotel, BG Pamplona, Jardin Del Sol, Hipocampo Palace, Morito Hotel and many more. I am also a freelance wedding and events singing pianist.
As a past member at the Young Choral Academy (Malaysia), I have performed traditional Malaysian choir folk songs. With joining this music school, I represented my country in events such as our KLCC European tour and the World Choir Games 2014. While studying abroad at Wells Cathedral School, I have achieved a Grade 8 distinction in Singing under the Trinity Music Exam Board. I have also been involved in a BBC Broadcast with the Wells Cathedral School’s girls choir 'Choralia' and the London Contemporary Orchestra.
