Le mie lezioni sono rivolte a studenti delle scuole superiori che vogliono migliorare voti, metodo di studio e sicurezza nella traduzione, ma anche a universitari o adulti curiosi, interessati alla cultura classica, alla filosofia o semplicemente al piacere di imparare. Non serve alcuna base: insieme costruiremo un percorso personalizzato, adatto ai tuoi obiettivi e al tuo ritmo. Cosa facciamo durante le lezioni? Le mie lezioni non sono mai ripetitive: alterniamo grammatica e traduzione, letture di testi autentici, curiosità linguistiche, etimologie e collegamenti con l’italiano e la cultura moderna. I propose flexible methodologies tailored to each student’s level, specific challenges, and objectives. I am available to teach middle- and high-school students who wish to strengthen or deepen their knowledge; university students preparing for exams in the History of Greek and Latin Literature or Language, Classical Philology, Historical Linguistics, or General Linguistics; and enthusiasts approaching classical languages and their literary traditions for the first time. After completing my BA in Classics with highest honours, I earned an MA in Classical Philology at the University of Bologna (with highest honours and recommendation for publication). I subsequently obtained a PhD, again with highest honours, in Classical Philology, more specifically in the History of the Greek Language, at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. I have delivered seminars in Italy and abroad, and have undertaken research stays in the United Kingdom (Oxford) and the Netherlands (Leiden). In the meantime, I also gained experience teaching at the high-school level and obtained certification to teach Italian Literature, Latin, and Greek. I additionally hold a C1-level English certification (IELTS Academic). My aim is to bring to bear the skills developed throughout my academic and professional path in order to convey not only a passion for the classical disciplines, but also a precise and rigorous understanding of them, one grounded in solid grammatical foundations and extending toward a broader comprehension of ancient texts and the enduring messages they communicate.

Hi, my name is Jordan and I was born and raised in Athens, Greece. I studied at Harvard University, where I received a literary Bachelor of Arts degree and a distinction for translation into Attic Greek. I did post-graduate work in Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and in translation theory at Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. I obtained a doctorate in philosophy at Université Paris 8. I have been active in international projects since my teens; and have served as a translator and (with an MA in economics) as a management executive in the United Nations system until retirement. I also speak German, can read Russian and Spanish, and am learning the rudiments of Mandarin Chinese. Teaching Ancient Greek has been to me a source of pleasure since college (when I coached classmates majoring in Classics) up to the present, as I familiarize committed learners with the workings and current relevance of that language. What makes that activity so rewarding is the unceasing give-and-take between Greek, in its long existence, and many other languages and cultures: given that ongoing exchange and affinities with other tongues, I enjoy sharing Greek as a particularly enlightening and elegant means of discussing matters that are still shaping the multilateral world we live in. Getting there, of course, presupposes proper acquaintance with Greek grammar and vocabulary. I offer grounding lessons (using a time-honoured Harvard textbook and a learner-friendly reader) as well as advanced textual and literary analysis to persons keenly interested in what has been said in Greek through the ages and in the pertinence of that to present-day issues, whether in relation to the arts and sciences or to our social and daily life. Depending on the learner's preference, I teach Ancient Greek with the current, living pronunciation or using the erudite phonation system known as "Erasmian" that was devised in the Renaissance.
