Good day there... My name is Teresa (Teacher Tess), and I live in South Africa I manage an afterschool care centre called “The Lighthouse” I care for 3 – 6 year old's in the afternoons Having taught children of various ages over the years before this, I have decided that this is my favourite age group. They are so loving and not afraid to show how they feel. I love having fun playing games with them, doing crafts and telling stories. I have built meaningful relationships with many of them. I look forward to seeing them each day as they run up to say hello and give me a big hug. I also love to see their smiling faces at the end of the day when they go home because then I know I’ve done a good job in keeping them happy. I have spent most of my career studying education and tutoring children. I volunteered in High school with SMILE Education to teach English to African pupils. I worked for a number of years tutoring maths for KUMON Education. I tutored maths privately. I worked for a time teaching high school maths. So I have worked with many many children over the years. My qualifications specific to the requirements of this position would be my National Certificate in Early Childhood Development as well as my Certificate in the Principles of Developmental Psychology, both of which I obtained through INTEC College. I have also recently completed a 168 hour TEFL qualification. My style of teaching is one where I try to keep the students motivated, to be sensitive to their needs and most importantly to observe and listen to them carefully to make sure they understand. Methods i use include: TPR (Total Physical Response) - this is using a lot of body language and gestures to emphasize meaning. Colourful Props - to keep the child's attention. Reward systems - to motivate participation. Games and songs - to make the lesson fun I absolutely love what I do and would love to meet you and embark on this exciting journey through the English language with your treasured child.
