Hello, I'm Mandar! I'd like to tell you a little bit about my teaching methods. My class is usually structured like this: hook --> gateway --> aha! --> understanding! Hello, I'm Mandar! I'd like to tell you a little bit about my teaching methods. My class is usually structured like this: hook --> gateway --> aha! --> understanding! I like to start my classes with a 'hook'. These are either the broad questions we want to answer before the end of the class, or some really interesting real-world example which can only be understood after the understanding the core concepts I want to cover in that class. I let you think about the hook for a second, and try and understand how much you already know. Then I try to make the goal of the class, that 'core concept', as clear as possible. Then I introduce an example which you are already familiar with, as a gateway to the core concept. Through this example, I try to build up to the ideas which are necessary to understand the core concept. This is to establish what we know so far. Then I give a different more complicated example, to point out what we don't know. The most important step is where I guide you towards that core concept. Instead of simply reciting it, I push you to discover it on your own, which leads to the aha! moment. Once you reach the aha! moment, I ask you to put the concept in you own words, which helps in understanding it better. This is further solidified with more examples! I finally round off the class by asking you the same question I asked at the beginning, the 'hook'. Hopefully, you can answer this question by now. At the end, I like leave you with a couple of open-ended questions which you can think about and apply the concepts you've just learned.
