Every one of my students get custom lessons depending on their level of understanding of the subject. Before each lesson I give out reading material so they can come prepared to the lesson. This is important for them to get a deeper understanding of the concepts that are going to be explained. During the lessons I demonstrate how to solve certain problems which demonstrate the core concepts which can be applied to other more complex problems. As we work through the problems we clear up any questions that might come up. At the end of the lesson the student gets homework that should be solved at home. During self study I advise my students to keep a study journal where they can write down the questions and obstacles they faced during their self study. This is so that the student prepares well for the next lesson. This way the time spent with me is used productively. I do not like to block big chunks of time for lessons ideally two to three hours at the most. I have found this gives the best results.
