Hello! I’m Folakemi, a Mathematics teacher and educator, and I genuinely enjoy helping learners understand Mathematics and become more confident in themselves. 😊 I have over 13 years of teaching experience, both in the classroom and online. I have taught learners of different ages, abilities and backgrounds, and I have supported learners preparing for examinations and entrance assessments, including SAT, JAMB, WAEC and UK 11+. One thing I strongly believe is that Mathematics should not feel like a foreign language to a learner. I want my learners to understand Mathematics so naturally that they do not have to struggle or force themselves to remember every method. Just as we become familiar with a language through regular exposure and practice, I want learners to become comfortable with mathematical ideas and confident in using them. I also believe that Mathematics is everywhere and in almost everything we do. From telling time, counting money and measuring things to recognising patterns, making decisions and solving everyday problems, Mathematics is part of our daily lives. I enjoy helping learners make these connections because Mathematics becomes much more meaningful when they can see it beyond the textbook. 🌍 I don't believe every learner should be taught in exactly the same way. I take time to understand what a learner already knows, how they think and where they need support. I then structure my lessons around their level and learning goals. My classes are interactive. I encourage learners to ask questions, explain their thinking and participate actively. I don't want a learner to simply copy a method from me. I want them to understand why the method works and eventually be able to use what they have learnt independently. When a learner makes a mistake, we don't treat it as something to be ashamed of. We look at it together, understand what went wrong and learn from it. I believe confidence grows when learners feel comfortable thinking, asking questions and trying again. 💡 I teach primary and upper-primary learners, as well as students around JSS/Year 7/Grade 7 level. I also support learners preparing for 11+ and other entrance and school assessments. Whether your child needs to strengthen their foundation, improve their understanding, prepare for an assessment or become more confident in Mathematics, I am happy to help. As an online teacher, I make my lessons engaging and learner-centred. I don't want the learner to spend the whole lesson simply listening to me. I want them involved, thinking, answering, asking questions, explaining their ideas and solving problems. My goal is simple: I want my learners to understand Mathematics, not just memorise it; to see Mathematics everywhere, not just in their books; and to approach it with confidence rather than fear.
