Hello! I’m Jeremiah, a medical student at the University of Benin, Nigeria, and I’m passionate about learning, teaching, and helping students become more confident in their studies. I’m applying to teach Biology and Chemistry because these are subjects I have a strong interest in and a solid foundational understanding of, especially through my medical education. Over time, I have had opportunities to tutor and guide students in their academic work. I enjoy explaining concepts that may initially seem difficult and breaking them down into simpler, clearer ideas that students can understand and remember. For me, tutoring is not just about giving students answers; it is about helping them understand the reasoning behind what they are learning so that they can eventually solve problems independently. I would describe myself as friendly, patient, approachable, and tutor-friendly. I understand that every student learns differently. Some students may understand a topic quickly, while others may need more examples, repetition, practical explanations, or a different approach before the concept becomes clear. I am willing to adjust my teaching style to suit the student's level, pace, and learning needs. I also encourage students to ask questions freely because I believe there are no unnecessary questions when someone is genuinely trying to learn. As a medical student, Biology is particularly relevant to my field of study, and my continued exposure to subjects such as human biology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and other medical sciences has strengthened my understanding of biological concepts. I also have a good foundational knowledge of Chemistry and understand the importance of having a strong grasp of basic principles before moving on to more advanced topics. Another thing I value is communication. I understand that language can sometimes become a barrier to learning. As a Nigerian tutor, I am comfortable communicating with students from different backgrounds and can also use familiar Nigerian languages when necessary to make explanations easier and more relatable. I believe that using a student's familiar language appropriately can sometimes help them understand a difficult concept more quickly, especially when introducing a new topic. My goal as a tutor is to create a comfortable learning environment where students feel encouraged to participate, ask questions, and improve without being afraid of making mistakes. I want my students to leave each lesson not only knowing more than they did before, but also feeling more confident about their ability to learn. I would be excited to work with students in Biology and Chemistry, support their academic progress, and help them achieve their educational goals. I look forward to making learning simpler, engaging, and enjoyable for every student I have the opportunity to teach.
